Asian American Happiness: A Preliminary Analysis, Kris Tran, Hannah Proctor

Happiness has been a long celebrated and pursued goal throughout the history of man. As the field of cross-cultural psychology looks to expand research boundaries, Asian Americans experience a unique blend of multiple cultures, and as a result, also hold a unique perception of happiness and subjective well-being. To understand their experience, we assessed relevant studies of life satisfaction in Asian American groups to uncover their population’s true mean level of happiness. We also looked to systematize and collate the various theories impacting Asian American happiness, to gain a more comprehensive understanding of subjective well-being and happiness overall.

Previous research indicated that there are 64 preferred leadership characteristics. These characteristics were derived from a review of the current literature on leadership, as well as focus groups and structured interviews. These characteristics can be grouped into 6 leadership styles: Imaginative, Constructive, Synergy, Principled, Virtuous, and Alpha Male. The current study aims to investigate how preference for these 6 leadership styles relates to political party affiliation.

Dysfunction of glutamate NMDA receptors may contribute to cognitive deficits in schizophrenia. In the present study, we examined the effects of chronic NMDA receptor dysfunction in the ventral medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) on the acquisition of a spatial reference memory (SRM) and spatial working memory (SWM) radial maze task as employed by Niewoehner et al (2007). Localized NR1 gene deletions were induced in the ventral mPFC of floxed NR1 mice (DEL, n=10) using an AAV-Cre vector; control mice (CON, n=10) received sham deletions. Chin and Trimble (2014) describe the need for a new culturally resonant model of leadership. A new model should present a more diverse and globally based perspective. Sixty-four characteristics of leadership were derived from both the current literature on leadership and from structured interviews and focus groups obtained from Western and non-Western samples. The current research is part of an ongoing study regarding cultural differences in what are believed to be the necessary characteristics of outstanding leadership.
