Navigating The Noise: An Examination Of The Relationship Between Introversion, Family Communication Patterns, Family Satisfaction, And Social Self-Efficacy, Kristine Nicolini

This study examines how introversion, family communication patterns (FCP), and modified communication behaviors relate to perceived levels of social self-efficacy and family satisfaction. Participants (N = 359) were undergraduate students at a large Midwestern urban university. The proposed causal model suggests conversation and conformity levels within a FCP impact whether families employ facilitative or inhibitive communication modification behaviors in interactions with an introverted family member. An Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method of estimation was used to test the causal model through a comparison of the expected and actual correlation matrix. Prior research has identified a variety of common correlates between food security and depression but oftentimes the data used in these analyses are not representative of the US or do not consider multiple categorical levels of the focal variables. Using data from the 2009-2010 National Health and Nutrition Examination (NHANES), this study sought to examine the relationship between four levels of food security - full, marginal, low and very low - and depression. The findings indicate low and very low food security are significantly related to an increased risk of depression, while marginal food security is not significantly different from …

American Indian (AI) youth experience incarceration (Bureau of Justice Statistics, 2011; Easy Access to the Census of Juveniles in Residential Placement, 1997-2010) and sexual abuse (Bachman, Zaykowski, Lanier, Poteyeva, & Kallmyer, 2010; Ellison, 2005; Hamby, 2008; Robin, 1997) at disparate rates in the United States. The present qualitative project utilized Extended Case Method to explore the service and re-entry needs of AI girls who are juvenile offenders and have been impacted by sexual abuse. This project includes secondary data detailing 58 cases of detained AI girls at a state-run female juvenile detention facility in the Midwest. Results indicated 26 of …
