Functional Analysis Of Ear Plugging And Treatment Analysis Of Noise Dampening Headphones, Erin M. Beardsley Psyd Aug 2014

Functional Analysis Of Ear Plugging And Treatment Analysis Of Noise Dampening Headphones, Erin M. Beardsley Psyd

All Student Scholarship

This current study presents a single case comprehensive functional behavioral assessment of ear plugging behavior that began with the application of traditional functional analysis technology and followed the function based treatment recommendations through a systematic treatment analysis. Results of the functional analysis indicated that the behavior was maintained by automatic positive reinforcement (i.e. ear plugging behaviors produced a reinforcing sensory consequence). These data were in contrast to prior clinical impressions that the individual’s ear plugging behaviors were maintained by automatic negative reinforcement (i.e. ear plugging served to block aversive auditory stimuli). To test hypothesis that headphones were functionally equivalent with …

Effects Of Peer Tutoring On The Reading Fluency And Comprehension Of Seventh Grade Students, Meaghan Opuda Swan Psyd Aug 2014

Effects Of Peer Tutoring On The Reading Fluency And Comprehension Of Seventh Grade Students, Meaghan Opuda Swan Psyd

All Student Scholarship

This study examined the efficacy of peer tutoring, specifically Peer Assisted Learning Strategies (PALS), as supplemental instruction for middle school students with reading difficulties. A multiple baseline across individuals design was used to demonstrate changes in oral reading fluency and reading comprehension. The results of this study suggest that students who participated in PALS did not substantially increase reading fluency or comprehension when analyzed on the basis of non-overlapping data points. Nonetheless, two of the three underperforming students improved their reading skills such that they were no longer in the at-risk range by the end of the study. The third …

The Effect Of Peer-Coaching On Social Skills Performance Of Middle School Students With High Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder, John Potter Psyd Apr 2014

The Effect Of Peer-Coaching On Social Skills Performance Of Middle School Students With High Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder, John Potter Psyd

All Student Scholarship

Students with high functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) often face significant social challenges in the middle school setting. For example, as students move beyond elementary school social interactions between peers typically become more complex and less predictable. When social demands begin to exceed the performance levels of students with autism in middle school, students may become isolated and experience increased behavioral and mental health issues. In middle schools, class-wide interventions are often not individualized enough for students with this condition and adult-mediated, office-based, interventions show low generalization to other settings (Reichow & Volkmar, 2010 ). The current study researched peer-coaching, …
