Emotional Regulation In Online Customer Service : Testing A Model Of Emotional Labor, Vivian A. Woo Aug 2010

Emotional Regulation In Online Customer Service : Testing A Model Of Emotional Labor, Vivian A. Woo

Theses, Dissertations and Culminating Projects

Emotional labor has yet to be studied in online customer service. Aspects of Grandey’s (2000) model of emotion regulation were tested with a survey study on 28 customer service workers for an online gaming company. Antecedents of interaction expectations and individual factors failed to predict emotional labor. For individual long-term consequences, surface acting was linked positively to emotional exhaustion and negatively with well-being. Implications for emotional labor research in computer-mediated communication are discussed.

Medication And Lifestyle Adherence Behaviors In Hypertensive Patients, Alayna B. Berkowitz May 2010

Medication And Lifestyle Adherence Behaviors In Hypertensive Patients, Alayna B. Berkowitz

Theses, Dissertations and Culminating Projects

Hypertension is a serious chronic condition that afflicts many Americans. The present study used the Common Sense Model (CSM) of Self Regulation as a theoretical framework to aid in the examination of predictors of medication and/or lifestyle adherence. Based upon the literature reviewed, the current study proposes that predictors would be different for medication and lifestyle adherence. Three hypotheses were proposed: 1. CSM-related variables (blood pressure monitoring, condition-worry hypertension duration, control beliefs, and medication beliefs items) would be correlated with medication adherence; 2. specific CSM-related variables, self assessed health (SAH) and physical functioning would significantly be correlated with lifestyle adherence; …

Overclaiming And The Medial Prefrontal Cortex : A Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Study, Franco Amati May 2010

Overclaiming And The Medial Prefrontal Cortex : A Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Study, Franco Amati

Theses, Dissertations and Culminating Projects

The tendency to claim more knowledge than one actually has is common and well documented, however little research has focused on the neural mechanisms that underlie this phenomenon. The goal of the present study was to investigate the cortical correlates of overclaiming. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) was delivered to the Medial Prefrontal Cortex (MPFC), Supplementary Motor Area (SMA), and Precuneus during the presentation of a series of words that participants were told made up a Cultural I.Q. test. However, participants were not informed that 50% of the words were actually fabricated. False claiming was reduced following MPFC TMS. Furthermore, reaction …

Readiness To Learn And Group Learning : The Effects Of Triggers For Learning And Learning Factors On Learning Readiness And Learning Processes, Christopher Michael Pingor Jan 2010

Readiness To Learn And Group Learning : The Effects Of Triggers For Learning And Learning Factors On Learning Readiness And Learning Processes, Christopher Michael Pingor

Theses, Dissertations and Culminating Projects

This study examined the effects of triggers for learning and factors that lead to a group’s readiness to learn and group learning processes. A longitudinal study was conducted over a two year period with a new set of cohorts participating each year for a total of 129 participants. There were 40 male and 76 female participants with 13 not identifying their gender. These participants represented a total of 30 e-boards and residence hall councils’. The participants completed individual self report surveys which were aggregated into group level data. A regression analysis was conducted. The results suggest that triggers for learning …

Evaluating The Effectiveness Of A Photographic Schedule To Teach Adults With Autism To Use An Apple Ipod®, Melissa M. Anglesea Jan 2010

Evaluating The Effectiveness Of A Photographic Schedule To Teach Adults With Autism To Use An Apple Ipod®, Melissa M. Anglesea

Theses, Dissertations and Culminating Projects

Many individuals with autism display deficits in the areas of verbal and written language. Picture prompts, in the form of a photographic schedule, can be a useful tool because they can be used in place of verbal and written language. In addition, a photographic schedule can replace prompts from an instructor. Using a multiple-baseline-across-subjects design, this study demonstrates the effectiveness of using a photographic schedule to teach three adult males with autism to use an Apple iPod®. By the end of the study, all participants were able to successfully operate the iPod® to listen to music without prompts from the …
