The following syllabus and lecture slides were completed as part of the Newer Faculty Learning Center (NFLC) grant to increase the use of high-impact content and pedagogy among new faculty. The syllabus and lectures slides provide an example of how to embed case studies, an evidence-based teaching (EBT) strategy (Herreid, 2011), into a social work foundation practice course on diagnosing with the DSM-5 (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Courses in Behavioral Neuroscience and Biological Psychology were taught while implementing evidence based teaching practices and several additional innovations. Students engaged in think-pair-share activities, group projects, and novel innovations of assignments including incentivized exam re-earns and creating modern memes of neuroscience content. Students exhibited evidence of learning, enjoyment, and teaching effectiveness.
