This letter to the editor of the St. John’s University student newspaper, The Record, points out that racism is multifaceted, constituting more than simply a personal belief. Racist attitudes comprise a cognitive component (stereotypes), an affective component (prejudice), and a behavioral component (discrimination).

The purpose of this article is to narrow the conceptual and methodological gap between existing formulations in psychodiagnostic theory and current practice in political personality. It is suggested that accurate assessment of the personalities of high-level leaders can significantly improve the prediction of political outcomes but that this endeavor has been hampered by inadequate transposition from the source disciplines of personality theory and psychodiagnostics to the target discipline of contemporary political psychology. This paper reports the method and preliminary findings of an investigation of the political personalities of South African president F.W. de Klerk and African National Congress president Nelson Mandela. The purpose of the study was to assess the utility of Theodore Millon’s personological model as an alternative or supplementary conceptual framework and methodology for the assessment of political personality. Conceptually, the investigation was conducted from the perspective of a model of personality compatible with Axis II of DSM-III-R, which serves as an important psychodiagnostic frame of reference for the practice of contemporary psychiatry and clinical psychology. Men And Gender: An Intervention Of Social-Sexual Effectiveness And Attitudes Toward Women, David Donnay

This study assessed men's social-sexual effectiveness and attitudes toward women, and investigated their apparent association. The present study investigated how these two measures, in a sample of college males,develop over time through maturation and program intervention. It was predicted that both male social-sexual effectiveness and attitudes toward women would be positively correlated, and that the measures would show an improvement in the subjects' confidence relating to women and in less traditional attitudes toward women. This paper is an explication of Maurice Merleau-Ponty's major contribution to the study of phenomenology. The author himself considered his work to be a victory of the Cartesian dualism that separated mind and body. Merleau-Ponty's work begins with an asking of the question "What is phenomenology," and responds "a coming of being into consciousness." For Merleau-Ponty all consciousness is consciousness of something, and this something is restricted to the world and what I experience through my bodily being. Merleau-Ponty sustains a lengthy critique of empiricism and intellectualism, the former relating our experience of the world to an agglomeration of what …
