Many nonprofit organizations lack strategies for succession planning and executive transitions. Without effective talent management and succession planning strategies, nonprofit organizations are in jeopardy of survival. The purpose of this multiple qualitative case study was to explore how nonprofit organizations in a southwestern state without a succession plan in place prepare for executive transition when an impending change is imminent. These multiple case studies were based on the conceptual framework of transition management.
