Current literature indicates a strong association between asthma and the early onset of comorbid generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in minors and their primary caregivers. Studies show that asthma prevalence increases with certain demographic factors, such as ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and housing quality. Evidence also suggests that GAD influences decision-making, especially when deciding to utilize emergency room (ER) services for asthma-related concerns. This study analyzed the effect of comorbid GAD on minors with asthma and ER utilization. The long-term responsibility of caring for a child with asthma can result in parents
experiencing a lower quality of life (QoL), especially if the child's asthma is not well
controlled. Asthma knowledge can enhance asthma control practices among parents.
However, research has not explored these variables together to determine whether
parental control of child's asthma mediates the relationship between parent asthma
knowledge and parent QoL. This quantitative research study explored whether parental
control of child's asthma mediated the relationship between parent asthma knowledge

Pediatric asthma is a major public health concern that disproportionately affects children of color and youth living in low-income, urban areas. The implications for public health, child health, and family functioning necessitates our understanding and addressing experiences by families who are facing barriers within their socio-demographic context in addition to the stressors associated with managing pediatric asthma. The current study applied qualitative methods to interviews with caregivers of children with and without asthma in an effort to more deeply connect with caregivers’ experiences and yield richer information about the intersection of identities as Black caregivers living in an urban setting …
