Home-based remote work systems present a unique set of cognitive performance and work task performance challenges to employees without remote work experience. The COVID-19 pandemic forced companies into transforming their work system structures, and their employee roles, without the preparation or education of the dynamics that surround home-based remote work systems. This thesis benefits the Human Factors community by investigating the effects of at-home remote-based work environments on cognitive performance, and work task performance, of employees who currently work remotely from home. The Effects Of Feedback Delivery Mechanisms On Employee Engagement Participation, Augusto Espinosa

The effects of different feedback mechanisms on safety engagement were examined in an industrial manufacturing setting with twenty employees. During a 30-day period, participants who received feedback showed a significant increase in safety engagement participation when compared to a five-month baseline period of no feedback. There was no significant difference in safety engagement participation between employees who received verbal feedback versus those who received written feedback. Furthermore, survey responses indicated that feedback improved employee attitudes toward the plant's safety program. Together, these findings suggest that feedback systems can be used to effectively improve industrial safety programs.

The aim of this research was to examine how the introduction of a third party impacts interviewee rapport in an investigative setting. Prior to this research it has been speculated that a "third person in the communications loop" during an investigative interview may negatively impact critical components of the collection process, including the establishment of rapport. In today’s assessment processes, especially those evaluations that rely on humans to make subjective judgements, it is necessary to analyze the quality of their ratings. The psychometric issues associated with assessment provide the lens through which researchers interpret results and important decisions are made. Therefore, inter-rater agreement (IRA) and inter-rater reliability (IRR) are pre-requisites for rater-dependent data analysis. A survey instrument cannot provide “good” information if it is not reliable; in other words, reliability is central to the validation of an instrument.
