Citizenship And Virtue’ Are Requirements For Maintaining Liberty, Timothy P. O'Brien
Citizenship And Virtue’ Are Requirements For Maintaining Liberty, Timothy P. O'Brien
Helm's School of Government Conference - American Revival: Citizenship & Virtue
In the twenty-first century, the United States of America has been caught in a time of increased polarization, the Republic has been fraying as the sense of community has cracked, where fanatics on the extremes of the political spectrum have contributed to the disruption of normal political order driven by normative agendas. The underlying political theories on which the nations was founded emerged from the ancient Greek philosophers and passed through the early Christian philosophers to the Framers of the Constitution of the United States of America. Transformative Constitutionalism And The Adjudication Of Elections In Kenya, Carl Bevelhymer
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The judicialization of politics has been an ongoing and expanding global phenomenon for decades. In Kenya, the record number of cases brought before courts prior to and following the 2017 elections is evidence of the continued growth and spread of the judicialization of politics, and more specifically elections; it is also the result of Kenya’s 2010 Constitution, which introduced a new form of governance, expanded the number of elective seats and mandated judicial and electoral reforms. CMC Senior Theses

American notions of both teacher and student intelligences as well as ideas of ‘proper’ teacher-student relationships are contextualized by the political philosopher John Locke who delineated a capitalistic political framework based on his interpretation of human motivations: reason and the pursuit of happiness. The corresponding narrow conceptions of intellect, educational success, morality, and emotionality …
Reclaiming Egalitarianism In The Political Theory Of Campaign Finance Reform, Frank Pasquale
Reclaiming Egalitarianism In The Political Theory Of Campaign Finance Reform, Frank Pasquale
Frank A. Pasquale
Recent advocacy for campaign finance reform has been based on an ideal of the democratic process which is unrealistic and unhelpful. Scholars should instead return to its egalitarian roots. This article examines how deliberative democratic theory became the main justification for campaign finance reform. It exposes the shortcomings of this deliberativist detour and instead models campaign spending as an effort to commodify issue-salience. Given this dominant function of money in politics, a more effective paradigm for reform is equalizing influence. Advocates of campaign regulation should return to the original principles of reformers; not an idealized vision of the democratic process, …
