In the study of female activists in politics, the role of women seen from the perspective of women’s representation tends to revolve in political recruitments and decision making process after the elections. This perspective assumes that political process works in a more advanced level by providing channels for female activists to articulate their political interests and thus help with their future endeavors. However, this assumption can be misleading in the society that political process is dominated by political elites. This has made recruitment and policy more central and salient for publicity and render activists at the grass-root level less significant. …

The discussion about development discourse in a country talking about how an idea affect economic policies. In Indonesia, the development discourse continues to change depending on the ruling regime. After the reformation, the dominant discourse is a neoliberal one that minimizes the role of the state in development. During the reign of Jokowi-JK, however, the role of the state strengthened. The government plans to build a massive infrastructure of the physical economy. The government legitimized its choice of action as the implementation of the Pancasila and Trisakti ideologies. Using the theories of Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe, this article argues …

This paper attempts to respond to three major discourse of political representation. First, that the political representation will not bring the representation of interests, classes, and identities completely, only half or partially. Representation is not a mere claim on representations facts. Second, that the democratic political representation happens if those whose interests are affected or touched by a decision have the capacity to (engage) influence the decision-making. Third, that the political representation can be generated from the electoral process (the election) and non-electoral. The electoral process would produce a formal political representation in the realm of the executive and legislative …

The women’s body in relation with the concept of existence is mutually binding. Body becomes a starting point to look at the existence of women themselves. The women’s as commodity and political instrument historically cannot be separated as the former is in many occasions seen as dangerous, especially if it is uncontrolled. Various policies have been produced by authorities as the expression of control over women’s bodies. Women themselves as the owners of the body are powerless against the control and power over her body. Any resistances to response or demand for more control will simply be labeled as immoral …

The reform era has been a space for presenting women in politics. In this case, the political constellation in the head of district elections could not be separated from expectations to increase political participation of women in public offices. In contrast to the Election Law that had set a quota of 30% affirmative policies for women, the Law No. 8 Year 2015 on the election of Governor and Head of Cities and Regent is neutral because it allows women and men to compete openly. In fact, based on the simultaneous head of regency election in 21 regencies/cities in Central Java, …
