The article explores the significance of sports in international relations as an instrument for diplomacy. Topics discussed include the ping-pong diplomacy between the People's Republic of China and the U.S. in 1971, similar attempts at sports diplomacy that were not as effective as the ping-pong diplomacy, and the role of sports in raising the profile of a country.
