Social scientists can’t help but dwell on it, discussing its characteristics and effects. To politicians, especially, public opinion is of particular interest, given the high profile of its relationship to government. Although the nature and sense of this relationship have been questioned, it has always remained a subject of discussion, particularly with the spread of democracy.
