The Corpus Juris Civilis: A Guide To Its History And Use, Frederick W. Dingledy

The Corpus Juris Civilis is indispensable for Roman law research. It is a vital pillar of modern law in many European nations, and influential in other countries. Scholars and lawyers still refer to it today. This valuable publication, however, may seem impenetrable at first, and references to it can be hard to decipher or detect. This guide provides a history of the Corpus Juris Civilis and the forms it has taken, states why it is still an important resource today, and offers some tips and tools for research using it.

Shorter and simpler than the two previous iterations, the University of Georgia Law Library's 2016-2017 strategic plan is a single page. It includes elements from the last version such as mission, vision and values. It still includes goals, but limits them to three and trims the text of each into straight-forward bullet-list objectives including: 1. Services, 2. Resources, and 3. Expertise. This year was also the first that the law library created a counter-part infographic version of their strategic plan. It is attached below as an additional document.

Discovering The Knowledge Monopoly Of Law Librarianship Under The Dikw Pyramid, Alex Zhang

This article uses the Data-Information-Knowledge-Wisdom (DIKW) pyramid to help identify the exclusive knowledge base and practical skills that law librarians must possess to solve practical problems. Paragraphs 4–24 trace the historical debates on whether law librarianship is a profession, which focus on autonomy as a key component of a profession. The consensus is that autonomy boils down to two major issues: identifying problems and providing solutions through exclusive methods that are restricted to a profession. Sailing Through Law School: Assessing Legal Research Skills Within The Information Literacy Framework, David H. Michels

In this study I ask the question: Can standardized information literacy tests help assess and benchmark the learning of information skills by Canadian law students? This study replicates an earlier study that found that a standardized test of information literacy competencies, SAILS, was not an effective measure of law student information literacy levels. By applying the same test under similar conditions to another group of law students, I found that while the test did not measure legal research competencies, it was effective in measuring basic information literacy skills in law students with often surprising results.
