Presented from the perspective of someone responsible for creating the digital objects that will eventually be included in a digital preservation program, this poster session will identify common issues that make the management and preservation of digital objects more challenging. Digital preservation needs to be talked about within the digitization workflow, because it takes a lot of work to produce the best digital objects possible. This research examines the development of the system brands of three public libraries: Live Oak Public Libraries, Richland Library, and Charlotte Mecklenberg Library. A system brand may be defined as the overall brand of a library system, as opposed to any of its sub-brands, such as those associated with individual library services, branches, departments, and events. Using a descriptive, case study approach, this research characterizes the efforts behind branding in these library systems.

Paramount to the success of any assessment initiative is an organization that supports and welcomes the processes that will influence meaningful change. To create this culture of assessment, librarians must generate stakeholder buy-in. By synthesizing the prior research in Business Management and Organizational Psychology, we propose antecedents to buy-in to creating a culture of assessment that can provide a theoretical framework for meaningful organizational change on any scale. We situate the conceptual antecedents to buy-in, Management Needs and Employee Needs, through a familiar tool for assessment librarians: Suggestion Systems.

Library created instructional videos can enhance library instruction in face to face classes, online classes, and at service points. Some libraries do not have a single person dedicated to video creation, and often create videos on an ad hoc basis. This presentation will detail the efforts of a large university library to create a cohesive management and development plan for library instructional videos, as part of a larger information literacy program.

There were practical reasons in favor of it, but there were some significant internal barriers that made it easier to keep things as they were. But in 2012 things changed. The authors discuss methods and challenges of supporting branch academic libraries overseas that are not staffed onsite by librarians or permanent staff. The authors present their two-pronged approach of creating a virtual presence carefully customized to the needs of the students studying abroad along with specially and highly trained student workers. The new program, grounded partly in theories from education and business management, is shown to have substantially improved both library services for our study abroad students as well as library student workers’ performance.

This study investigates the management and preservation of non-book materials at the University of Ibadan, Obafemi Awolowo University and Ladoke Akintola University. Senior management decisions to foster innovation and adopt new technology solutions have serious implications for the success of their organization change initiatives. This project examined the issue of senior management decision or reasons of their decision to adopt new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems as a solution to solve their business problems.
