Data curation is one way that libraries are extending traditional services to meet the changing needs of patrons. Requirements from research funders have placed increased pressure on grant recipients to create Data Management Plans and to securely store raw data. Research universities have stepped up to provide comprehensive data support services. Despite discrepancies in funding and staff, smaller institutions can similarly provide robust services by focusing on their strengths, such as interdepartmental collaboration, flexibility, and rapid turnaround time. This article details how librarians at Trinity University adapted the larger practice of curation to meet local data management needs.

It states that communication and trust building are the first step to successful collaborations. Moreover, learning goals of the faculty member for the assignment must be determined. This session demonstrates various uses of an institutional repository: showcasing student work, archiving images from student theatrical productions, scanning and archiving the student newspaper, and providing campus-wide access to the university s policies, for example. Such projects respond to and shape the changing role of paraprofessionals in the library, but success requires collaboration with other campus units.

When looking at articles written about academic library issues, a reader quickly notices that discussions of faculty status and tenure for librarians have occupied a prominent place. Should librarians be considered faculty when they work for colleges or universities? If so, should they be offered tenure? And if they are offered the chance to achieve tenure, how should they be evaluated? Or are faculty status and tenure things that are irrelevant to the pursuit of librarianship and unnecessary diversions from what we should be most concerned about?
