ABSTRACT This study examined librarians’ attitude towards the use of ICT in selected academic libraries in Kwara State. Descriptive survey research design was adopted. The population of the study consist of all the librarians in University of Ilorin, Kwara State University and Al-hikma University which gives a total number of 51 librarians. A structured questionnaire was developed to elicit information from the 51 librarians from the selected academic libraries in Kwara State, out of which 49 copies of the questionnaire were completely filled and return. Ghosts In The Archive: The Textual Lacunæ Of The Third Franklin Expedition, Kathleen Kasten-Mutkus

The paucity of the extant written record left by the Third Franklin Expedition (1845−1848) has presented challenges to the efforts of generations of searchers and scholars. Additionally, it has underscored the reliance of Western culture on written records when establishing narratives and understanding events. This paper explores the sparse written records of the expedition in the context of their contextualisation over the years within an ersatz Franklin archive which includes a variety of discourses and documentary intents. By situating the Franklin records within an archival context, it is possible to reconsider these materials as part of a collection while also …

Abstract

This paper conceptualizes literacy and learning as a continuum that requires appropriate placement, attitude and adjustment that should be initiated and instilled from elementary stage of learning with emphasis on the role of the school librarians. Base on the overview obtained from scholarly publications, a relationship among information literacy, lifelong learning and school librarian was established and reviewed. Information enables individuals to develop knowledge which can influence their health behavior and attitude while inadequate literacy about health information is associated with poor understanding of medical advice and negative health outcomes among the population. Skin bleaching is a health practice involving the (mis)use of chemical solutions to change one’s complexion to a lighter tone. This paper investigated the viability of using the concept of health information literacy to reduce skin bleaching by reviewing previous empirical studies on skin bleaching with emphasis on health information. Finding showed that skin bleaching is driven by a self-destructive, unattainable beauty standard. It also …

The Latin American Sheet Music Collection, MSS 932 BC, 1835-1996, contains many illustrated scores which have the composers’ photographs and signatures. There are songs from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, and Uruguay, as well as Spain, Portugal, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, and the United States. The largest component is from Mexico. The musical range represented includes popular and classical music with boleros, tangos, marches, waltzes, corridos, rancheras, fox trot and regional canciones. Initially conceived by the University of Pittsburgh Health Sciences Library System in 2013, How-to Talks by Postdocs is a series of instructional brown-bag lunch talks presented by postdocs about how to do something related to the health sciences. These are not seminar talks, but an opportunity for postdocs to hone their science communication skills by informing the public about a topic related to the health sciences.
