Collection Development Reports and Documents

A summary of a review that determined the approximate cost to acquire a selection of core journals in support of undergraduate programs at the University of Rhode Island. The list was compiled by reviewing the appropriate standard indexes which college libraries use to gain access to the periodical literature. This review does not survey the journals required for our graduate programs [Oceanography, CPAD, GSLIS, Audiology, etc], newspapers, reference / electronic serials,etc.

Thank you letter from Carol Surprenant, Director of the University of Rhode Island Research Center in Business and Economics, for presenting a workshop, "Finding Business Information on the Internet," offered as part of the Business Intelligence Expo. The Business Intelligence Expo was held in Providence, Rhode Island, on October 21, 1997.

The one-hour workshop was offered twice during the Expo and covered business information available on the Internet. With a total of 25 attendees, this workshop was the most heavily attended of all workshops at the Expo.

Recommends six policies related to the bibliographic control of electronic journals.

The charge to the committee was as follows: "The Ad Hoc Committee on the Bibliographic Control of Electronic Serials will review present library practice for the handling of electronic serials from the point of order, through invoicing, payment and cataloging in the HELIN system and on the library's home page.
