This catalog accompanied the 1996 University Libraries’ exhibition of material related to Eighteenth and Nineteenth Century British Women Writers. The exhibition covers a full chronological spectrum, and many of the "collector’s high points" of literature by women are displayed, including first editions of Wollstonecraft’s Vindication, Shelley’s Frankenstein, Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights, and Rossetti’s Goblin Market, as well as first editions by Austen, Charlotte and Anne Bronte, George Eliot and other well-known names.

This exhibition contained works by and about Robert Burns, and showed selected highlights from the G. Ross Roy Collection of Burns, Burnsiana and Scottish Poetry. The collection, acquired from USC Professor Roy in 1989, is widely recognized as among the best Burns collections anywhere in North America. The items chosen for the University's Robert Burns bicentenary exhibit have been selected from over 4,000 items in the Roy Collection on Burns alone.
