If intentional, college students in campus jobs can develop professional skills valued in the post-college workforce. However, many students are not likely to realize the potential of their experience without advisement or instruction that teaches them how to reflect on experience and articulate its value, usually in the form of a resume or in an interview. This study examines the value of three workshops to help students reflect on their development of NACE career readiness competencies as a result of their library work experience. The study was designed to examine the staff training indices for effective library services in Donald E. U. Ekong Library, University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. The indices in the study relates to the challenges and strategies to enhance staff training in the library. The study was guided by three objectives and research questions respectively. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population for this study was 104 staff comprising both professional and para-professional staff of the library. The Carpentries is a global community teaching data science and computational skills to librarians, researchers in academia, industry and government. The various initiatives include Library Carpentry, Data Carpentry and Software Carpentry. Organisations interested in upskilling their staff may conduct Carpentries workshops based on openly available lesson materials and customise the content according to their needs and audiences.

Professional Development And Performance Evaluation For Cataloguers In Nigeria: A Roadmap For Performance Management System, Ifeoma Stella Njoku Phd

The study investigates professional development, performance evaluation and management systems of cataloguers in university libraries. The descriptive survey method was adopted for the research and the population of study consists of 51 cataloguers in 10 university libraries in South East zone of Nigeria. The questionnaire was distributed to 51 cataloguers. A total of 40 copies were returned giving a 78 percent response rate. Z-test analysis was used to answer the research questions. Findings of the study show that exposing cataloguers to a course (mean = 3.97), increases a cataloguer's desire to excel and grow on the job by intimating them …

This workshop will introduce attendees to the basics of problem-based learning (PBL). Participants will have the opportunity to create a lesson plan for a PBL session while working in a PBL environment. The workshop will focus on creating learning objectives, creating PBL prompts, facilitating discussion, and leading a de-briefing session. PBL activities complement information literacy sessions because they ask the student to actively demonstrate competencies, and allow the instructor to act as a "guide on the side."

This instruction was designed to be delivered to a Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) or a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

Instructional Goal #1: Using a personal smartphone connected to the internet, learners will download medical information apps, before deployment to a disaster environment.

Instructional Goal #2: Recalling real and simulated patient care situations that required additional medical information, learners will identify and search smartphone apps for relevant, current, authoritative, medical information that could be applied to the care of individual patients in disasters.
