Jan Reiner, an architect and longtime resident of St. Petersburg, emphasized the transformation of the urban landscape in his works. According to Reiner, the urbanist “creates an environment which serves public needs and is in harmony with nature.” A 1932 graduate of Prague University in his native Czechoslovakia, Reiner later earned a masters degree in architecture at Harvard. His extensive record of teaching, consulting, and design work brought him acclaim as an architect that emphasized creative solutions to urban settlements.
