Changes In The Library Landscape Regarding Visible Minority Librarians In Canada, Yanli Li, Maha Kumaran, Allan Cho, Valentina Ly, Suzanne Fernando, Michael David Miller

As a follow-up to the first 2013 survey, the Visible Minority Librarians of Canada (ViMLoC) network conducted its second comprehensive survey in 2021. The 2021 survey gathered detailed information about the demography, education, and employment of visible minority librarians (VMLs) working in Canadian institutions. 162 VMLs responded to the 2021 survey, 35% up from the 2013 survey. Changes occurred in ethnic identity, generation, where VMLs earned a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent degree, library type, geographic location, and job responsibilities. Murray Library at Messiah University created a unique marketing tool called Murray in a Hurry. This newsletter is typically distributed every two weeks and is hung in all bathroom stalls. It provides information on library events, new materials, literary quotes, grammar, and humor. This combined document includes all 13 issues during the 2021-2022 academic year.

Literary festivals are an opportunity for authors and readers to mingle and interact. Libraries that host literary festivals connect book lovers and writers in a very personal way, enabling libraries to bask in the glory of that connection. They allow fans to get close to a beloved writer, hear a reading, and maybe even get a book signed. And like almost everything else during the pandemic, they have had to adapt or go into indefinite hiatus.
