Conflicts Of Interest And Boundary Setting For Growth In Faculty-To-Faculty Mentoring, Barbara E. Weeg

In higher education, mentoring is often structured as a relationship between a tenured, senior faculty member and an untenured, junior faculty member to ease the mentee's transition to the organization and to the tripartite faculty responsibilities of teaching, research, and service. Conflicts of interest emerge if the mentor, who has been serving as confidant and guide, participates in the promotion and tenure assessment of the mentee. Is any information shared by the mentee during the mentoring considered confidential? Relevant research and mentorship documents will be analyzed to determine if this conflict of interest is acknowledged and if strategies for setting …

The University of Northern Iowa implementation of the Ithaka S+R Faculty Survey was launched on April 2, 2015, and was closed to new responses on April 30, 2015, with a total of 113 complete responses. The questionnaire covers topics in several key areas, including: how faculty members discover materials for research; how faculty members select research topics and collaboration within research projects; the role of the library in supporting faculty members’ needs; faculty members’ usage of scholarly communication services; faculty members’ perceptions of students’ research skills; and faculty members’ undergraduate instruction practices. The Civil War is a topic that is taught at the middle school level. However, teachers are not necessarily teaching from both the Northern and Southern perspectives. They are also not always looking at the causes of the Civil War beyond slavery. The purpose of this project was to create a selective annotated bibliography of recommended resources for middle school teachers to use when teaching about the causes of the Civil War from both the Northern and Southern perspectives. According to AASL (2010), multiple research studies have confirmed that there is a correlation between school library programs staffed by certified school librarians and increased student achievement; yet, many schools are also beginning to employ literacy coaches to improve reading achievement. Numerous studies have been conducted in the past on the decline in amount of time students spend reading for leisure as they age. However, few studies have explored the specific factors that influence how middle school students select leisure reading materials. The purpose of this combined, qualitative and quantitative study is to explore the leisure reading habits of grade 8 students in order to explore the specific factors that influence middle schools students when they select leisure reading materials. The 21st Century School Teacher Librarian: Trends In The Iowa School Library Survey Data Over The Last Decade, Emily Baltes

The purpose of this study is to explore the Iowa School Library Survey data at ten year intervals to describe differences in professional teacher librarian staffing levels, time spent supporting reading guidance, and time spent in collaboration with other teachers. Raw data was examined from the 2003-2004 and 2013-2014 School Library Surveys. Although 1034 surveys were completed in 2003-2004, and 681 were completed in 2013- 2014, this study only analyzed data for the 339 schools with accurate entry both years. Genrification, or the act of organizing a library or section of a library by genres or topics, has been a trend in recent years in both school and public libraries. Little to no research has been conducted on the effectiveness of this transition from the Dewey Decimal System in fiction and or nonfiction collections.
