The Impact Of Light Intensity On The Subjective Complaints Of Librarians And Users: An Investigation Of An Academic Library, Tri Niswati Utami, Retno Sayekti, Triana Santi

The objective of this study is to analyze the impact of light intensity on the subjective complaints of librarians and visitiors at an academic library. This research applied both quantitative and qualitative techniques on 696 visitors and librarians. The result suggests that the effects of light intensity include eyestrain, reading difficulty, dizziness, shoulder and back pains, as well as impaired concentration. Also, the frequency of reading and working impacted the subjective complaints. Furthermore, the intensity as well as the frequency of reading and working greatly influenced the subjective complaints. This article explores the challenges encountered by academic library staff regarding the handling or processing of online requests from library clients. The researcher outlined the challenges identified by the respondents and provided suitable recommendations. This study employed a quantitative approach that enabled the researcher to generalise the findings. Data was intended to be collected from 39 library staff, but 27 responded. This study aims at establishing the use of smart phones for information seeking by undergraduate students in a Nigerian Specialized University. A descriptive survey design was adopted. Five objectives and five research questions were formulated to guide the study. A stratified random sampling technique was used to select one thousand four hundred and three (1,403) respondents across the two colleges for the study whereas 84% were retrieved.
