In this interactive workshop we will explore together how to use a job ad as a blueprint for an effective cover letter that is tailored to the interests of the hiring committee. Administration at my institution had planned to cut my budget drastically for the next fiscal year. Once I was made aware of the situation, I called as many library directors as I knew so they could help me to advocate for my budget. I was a new academic Library Director and needed help on this. I learned many things but each different personality. All libraries are different and each library faces their own set of budget challenges. Early career librarians have some difficult choices to make when choosing the path before them. Public libraries are by far the most visible and easiest avenues of the field to access, and are typically filled with myriad opportunities for the intrepid librarian even before pursuing an MLIS. Academic libraries however, are barely visible to those beginning their programs, and despite DEAI approaches, may not even be considered by some new librarians.
