Visionaries, Architects And Pioneers: Conceptualising Smu, Pin Pin Yeo, Patricia Meyer

The Singapore Management University (SMU) Library was tasked with documenting the early history of SMU by the chairman of its board of trustees. An oral history project to interview the pioneers involved in the formation of the university began in 2011. The project team included the Library, the Information Technology department, and a researcher/interviewer who was familiar with SMU. It was a steep learning curve for the team. As they conducted and processed the interviews, they learned about and made decisions on interviewing, recording, transcribing, storage, website design, discoverability, usability, and sustainability. New Workflows For Research Publications And Repository At Smu, Pin Pin Yeo

The Singapore Management University started implementing a new solution for Integrated Research Information System (IRIS) in April 2014. Project background and some success factors is covered. IRIS would replace existing silo in-house systems. The key objective of IRIS is to have one system that takes care of ethics, research project management, grant management, publications and reporting. During the IRIS project implementation, the tasks performed included mapping of existing fields to the new IRIS and loading of existing data to IRIS test system. New workflows and some re-configuration of the default system were proposed.

This presentation covers library buildings, spaces and users in the current environment. It highlights how Singapore libraries have evolved and their approaches to library spaces. A case study of Singapore Management University Libraries is presented. Other libraries covered are National Library Board (Early Literacy Library), National University of Singapore (Hon Sui Sen Memorial Library), Nanyang Technological University, Temasek Polytechnic, Nanyang Polytechnic.
