The growth of data and technology has deeply impacted on the ways that scientific research are practiced, bringing new challenges to academic libraries. In Australia, the recent worldwide movement to FAIR – findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable - research, has seen institutions shift towards developing relevant policies and standards, so as to remain competitive in the global economy.

This paper will discuss how The University of Queensland (UQ) Library has taken significant steps to achieving the FAIR principles for research outputs, within Digitisation and Research Data Management (RDM) services.

Participatory Prototype Design: Developing A Sustainable Metadata Curation Workflow For Maternal Child Health Research, Amanda Harrigan, Saurabh Vashishtha, Sharon Farnel, Kendall Roark

This paper describes the findings from a participatory prototype design project, where the authors worked with maternal and child health (MCH) researchers and stakeholders to develop a MCH metadata profile and sustainable curation workflow. This work led to the development of three prototypes: 1) a study catalogue hosted in Dataverse, 2) a metadata and research records repository hosted in REDCap and 3) a metadata harvesting tool/dashboard hosted within the Shiny RStudio environment. We present a brief overview of the methods used to develop the metadata profile, curation workflow and prototypes. Data Information Literacy Case Study Directory

Librarians at Purdue University had the opportunity to develop a semester long data information literacy program to ten students in the College of Agriculture. The program was run as a pilot to test out ideas and approaches in teaching data literacy competencies to students. Topics included high level subjects such as data lifecycles, data management planning, metadata and sharing data, along with practical issues such as file naming conventions, developing a metadata record for a data set and depositing data into a repository. Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID) is an open, nonprofit, and community-driven effort to prevent name confusion in research and scholarly communities. ORCID Registry (developed by ORCID) distinguishes researchers and contributors by assigning unique researcher identifiers and linking research activities and outputs, including scholarly works, affiliations, and funding, to these identifiers. Since the registry service launched in October 2012, the number of ORCID identifiers has rapidly increased, and the registry has been continuously improved through the active use of ORCID API. This paper describes the initial results from the Data Information Literacy (DIL) project designed to identify the educational needs of graduate students across a variety of science disciplines and respond with effective educational interventions to meet those needs. The DIL project consists of five teams in disparate disciplines from four academic institutions in the United States. The project teams include a data librarian, a subject-specialist librarian, and a faculty member representing a disciplinary group of students. The Institute of Museum and Library Services funded a two-year project for five teams (each made up of two librarians, one of whom specialized in data services, and a faculty researcher) from four institutions (Purdue University, University of Oregon, University of Minnesota, and Cornell University) to examine the data information literacy needs of graduate student researchers. After identifying the needs of their audience each team developed a tailored approach to bring instruction to their respective graduate students.
