Interlibrary Loan departments are no stranger to collaboration between campuses. Therefore, when the consolidation of the two institutions of Kennesaw State University and Southern Polytechnic State University was announced, their respective interlibrary loan departments rose to the challenge with - if not enthusiasm - optimism and the willingness to try new ideas and strategies to merge the two units. This presentation will cover the alternatives considered, strategies chosen, and the implementation process undertaken to create a unified interlibrary loan department across two campuses and four libraries using Atlas' ILLiad software. Predicated on research demonstrating books requested through interlibrary loan that are purchased for the collection usually circulate more, cost less, and add value to the collection, Lupton Library’s Dean proposed this patron driven acquisition model. A Buy, not Borrow (BNB) pilot project was implemented at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s Lupton Library in January 2010.
