Accessibility Of Arl Academic Libraries' Digital Library Projects, Chad M. Kahl, Sarah Williams

Discover results of a study focusing on accessibility of over 1,000 digital library projects from 100-plus academic members of the Association of Research Libraries. Study noted number, titles, types and URLs of projects; type of access; terminology; level of access from the library’s homepage; whether content was restricted, and if so, was it explained; whether metadata was included, and if so, was it searchable; was the project developed through a partnership; and was the project affiliated with a library unit. Learn more about surprising findings that digital library resources, despite considerable funding and resources, are not easily accessible.

Illinois State University's Milner Library began discussion on managing digital resources in September 2023 in an effort to take the lead in coordinating storage, cataloging and retrieval of digital projects across campus, while also encouraging the development of new digitization projects. At the start of the process, before full implementing a digitization program, the Library wanted to ensure efficient access to and integrated searching capabilities for new digital projects.
We surveyed Association of Research Libraries' (ARL) academic libraries to gather data on the accessibility of their digital projects. We chose to examine ARL libraries because larger university libraries have taken …

As Hungary moves to join the European Union, librarians are noting the need to share the nation’s library collections with non-Hungarian speakers. Currently, Hungary’s digital libraries largely reflect the nation’s heritage as one of the most homogenous European nations and are not easily useable without knowledge of the language. Hungarian is a small language, spoken by about 15 million people worldwide, and the need for disseminating Hungarian knowledge into global knowledge is an important step for integration into the EU.
