A Review Of Energy-For-Water Data In Energy-Water Nexus Publications, Christopher M. Chini, Lauren E. Excell, Ashlynn S. Stillwell Jan 2021

A Review Of Energy-For-Water Data In Energy-Water Nexus Publications, Christopher M. Chini, Lauren E. Excell, Ashlynn S. Stillwell

Faculty Publications

Published literature on the energy-water nexus continues to increase, yet much of the supporting data, particularly regarding energy-for-water, remains obscure or inaccessible. We perform a systematic review of literature that describes the primary energy and electricity demands for drinking water and wastewater systems in urban environments. This review provides an analysis of the underlying data and other properties of over 170 published studies by systematically creating metadata on each study. Over 45% of the evaluated studies utilized primary data sources (data collected directly from utilities), potentially enabling large-scale data sharing and a more comprehensive understanding of global water-related energy demand. …

Information Technology And The Evolution Of The Library, Alexander N. Constantine Mar 2009

Information Technology And The Evolution Of The Library, Alexander N. Constantine

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this research is to examine the current state of the practice of information technology use among academic and research libraries in order to gain insight into the level of maturity of various emerging technologies such as the Institutional Repository (IR) to be used to provide descriptive guidance and context to other institutions considering them for application. This research uses a case study methodology involving a single case design with multiple units of analysis, and draws evidence from individual interviews of research and education libraries chosen from a range of sizes, foci, and jurisdictions. This evidence is coupled …

A Multiple Case Study Analysis Of Digital Preservation Techniques Across Government, Private, And Public Service Organizations, David P. Gough Mar 2008

A Multiple Case Study Analysis Of Digital Preservation Techniques Across Government, Private, And Public Service Organizations, David P. Gough

Theses and Dissertations

The process of record keeping has evolved through time. As our technology advances, so does our ability to manage information. We have progressed from paper-based records to new digital techniques and formats to store records. However, digital storage is not the "Holy Grail" answer to preservation and storage problems. Digital storage is confounded by multiple problems, also. Some of these problems are, but not limited to, lack of standardization and legal guidance, proprietary formats, and the fragility of the digital medium. This research examines several organizations that are deeply involved in digital preservation and tries to identify common practices and …

Bibliometrically Mapping Team Cognition Literature: A Co-Citation Analysis, Ryan A. Howell Mar 2008

Bibliometrically Mapping Team Cognition Literature: A Co-Citation Analysis, Ryan A. Howell

Theses and Dissertations

Researchers investigating team cognition must source and review a challenging set of relevant, mature literature from a diverse array of academic disciplines. Such disciplines may include psychology, management, information science, military science, anthropology, and nursing science, etc. This thesis summarizes an effort to bibliometrically map team cognition literature using an author co-citation analysis methodology. The work began with a traditional literature review that identified key authors who were published in peer-reviewed journals. These authors were contacted and asked to provide their own listings of key researchers in the field, which were used in conjunction with the Social Sciences Citation Index …

Mapping Change Management: A Co-Citation Analysis, Brian R. Low Mar 2007

Mapping Change Management: A Co-Citation Analysis, Brian R. Low

Theses and Dissertations

Today's organizations are continually undergoing changes to make improvements in their efficiency and effectiveness. The ability of organizations to effectively implement and sustain successful change, however, has been limited, with most change initiatives failing to attain the desired success. To counter this trend, researchers across several disciplines have worked to provide practitioners better insight into how to facilitate change within their organizations. This research has resulted in many theories as to what constitutes change and how best to implement it, but it lacks a unifying theory that encompasses all aspects of change research. This effort takes a step toward a …

An Eleven Year Retrospective Of The Acquisition Review Journal, Mitchell J. Elder Mar 2005

An Eleven Year Retrospective Of The Acquisition Review Journal, Mitchell J. Elder

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this research was to examine the evolution of the Acquisition Review Journal (ARJ) through its first 11 years of publication. Researchers assessed the Defense Acquisition community through a review of ARJ articles. They considered what areas academics and practitioners have explored, and how they have explored them. This review documents such characteristics as areas of study, methods of study, and contributors. Trends are identified and conclusions are drawn as to the contribution of the ARJ to the Defense Acquisition community of practice.

An Investigation Of Prioritizing Research Topics In Professional Communication, Richard G. Buschagen Sep 1997

An Investigation Of Prioritizing Research Topics In Professional Communication, Richard G. Buschagen

Theses and Dissertations

This research explored which areas and methods of research need to be identified and developed to most effectively communicate business and technical information. The research was sparked by the current literature which indicates that a gap exists between academicians, who do most of the research, and practitioners, who utilize the research results. This effort was intended to address possible causes of this problem by establishing the importance of nine research topic areas, six data collection methods/sources, and three data analysis methods for both academicians and researchers and other demographic characteristics. The research concludes that the participants generally agreed on which …

Records Analysis And Classification System: A Proof Of Concept System For The Automated Classification Of United States Air Force Records, David W. Snoddy Dec 1996

Records Analysis And Classification System: A Proof Of Concept System For The Automated Classification Of United States Air Force Records, David W. Snoddy

Theses and Dissertations

The records management process utilized within the Department of Defense (DoD) is currently labor intensive. Work is being done to automate portions of this process, but classifying documents and assigning disposition instructions remains a labor intensive, manual operation. Although the requirement for this capability was identified by a DoD sponsored study, an automated computer-based system which can classify and apply disposition instructions has yet to be developed for use within the DoD. This thesis study presents a proof of concept computer program called the Records Analysis and Classification System (RACS) which was developed to demonstrate computer-based techniques for the automated …

Digital Rosetta Stone: A Conceptual Model For Maintaining Long-Term Access To Digital Documents, Steven B. Robertson Dec 1996

Digital Rosetta Stone: A Conceptual Model For Maintaining Long-Term Access To Digital Documents, Steven B. Robertson

Theses and Dissertations

Due to the rapid evolution of technology, future digital systems may not be able to read and/or interpret the digital recordings made by older systems, even if those recordings are still in good condition. This thesis addresses the problem of maintaining long-term access to digital documents and provides a methodology for overcoming access difficulties due to technological obsolescence. A review was conducted to determine the long-term access methods that have already been suggested by other researchers. These previously suggested methods are then combined with other ideas that were encountered and conceived while performing research for this project. The combination of …

An Analysis Of The Effectiveness Of Records Management, Dale R. Austin, Peter M. Moseley Dec 1994

An Analysis Of The Effectiveness Of Records Management, Dale R. Austin, Peter M. Moseley

Theses and Dissertations

This research was performed for the dual purpose of defining effectiveness as it applies to the field of records management (RM) and studying the impact of Document Librarian (DL) on the productivity of Air Force records managers. The main thrust of the study was to define effectiveness for RM because no standard existed. The definition was generated through a Delphi process with a group of RM experts and took four rounds to achieve acceptable consensus. The Delphi process evaluated major areas which a RM system must perform. DL is a RM software package developed jointly by Air Force Material Command …
