Today's bibliographic managers provide cloud storage so that papers can be attached to 
citations and syncing services, in order for papers and citations to be available in multiple 
mediums. Mendeley and Zotero are two services that offer online storage of papers and 
citations, desktop applications, and tablet integration. Mendeley has an iPad application and 
an open API so that developers can create apps for Android tablets. Zotero is an open-
source project that encourages developers to create both iPad and Android apps. Both 
suites can be integrated with word processing software for accurate in-text and bibliographic

A large format infographic describing the system for citation which permits reference to legal or law-related information in any medium without requiring reference to proprietary products. Includes a timeline of the Universal Citation Guide from 1993 to 2012, citation elements, a list of states and territories that adopted the practice and an interactive QR code for accessing AALL's page on this citation format. The poster also encouraged viewers to advocate for adopting Universal citation with judges, attorneys and legislators.

Cresting Toward The Sea Change: Literature Review Of Cataloging And Classification 2009-10, Sue Ann Gardner

This review covers cataloging and classification literature published in 2009 and 2010, including relevant explorations of knowledge organization systems and theory. Only English-language literature is reviewed, though not all of the literature covered is U.S.-based. Overarching themes presented in the literature include the merging of library metadata into the Web environment, the continuation of cooperative cataloging in libraries, the role of both controlled and uncontrolled headings in catalog records, and reconsiderations of workflow in light of impending changes to cataloging rules. Notably, several relevant foundational documents were either completed or revised during the review period.

Citation Help In Databases: The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same, Mary Van Ullen, Jane Kessler

University Libraries Faculty Scholarship

In 2005 the authors reviewed citation help in databases and found an error rate of 4.4 errors per citation. This article describes a follow-up study which revealed a modest improvement in the error rate to 3.4 errors per citation, still unacceptably high. The most problematic area was retrieval statements. The authors conclude that librarians should include citation features in the evaluation of databases, and should open a dialogue with vendors about the importance of providing accurate, reliable information about citations to students.

As research teams have grown larger, authorship lists of resulting publications have become longer. Organizations and journals have issued statements about ethical authorship, nature of contribution, and author responsibility, but author order is less frequently addressed. Unless the contribution of a co-author is specified, readers make their own assumptions about author contributions because practices on author order in the byline vary by discipline, journal, editor, publisher, scientific society, institution, country, and the authors themselves.
