A study on the remote library users showed that remote users preferred online databases and internet as information resources because of easy access and easy of use. However, they have used books and journals, which are printed resources, as main information resources because online databases and internet cannot satisfy their information needs. Also, 86.7 percent of remote users consider library services as an important issue to choose a distance learning program, and remote users extremely motivated by their professors to use library so that there are needs to have partnership between distance learning programs and library services. This study is to contribute to develop adaptive information systems meeting inside information needs as well as represented information needs, and dealing with every levels of users and user's preferences. Also, this study is to present a method of developing adaptive information system through developing user profile using machine teaming and decision tree, applying relevance feedback using merged vector, and applying user feedback.

This study is to determine whether color, icon, sorting methods of brief description about materials, and positioning methods of final records affect the usability of the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) screen designs in terms of success rate, search time, and users' preferences. The findings suggest that OPAC systems can be optimized to enhance user's performances conflict with each other, designers should give more weight to performance because of the library's mission of meeting users' information needs.
