Hugh Macdiarmid & Friends, University Libraries--University Of South Carolina

Rare Books & Special Collections Publications

The items listed in this catalogue were almost all taken from the G. Ross Roy Collection of the University of South Carolina's Special Libraries Division. While particular attention was paid to works entirely by MacDiarmid in the selection of works to be displayed, the Roy Collection is rich also in works edited by MacDiarmid, or to which he wrote introductions or contributed essays or poems. Rare Books & Special Collections Publications

This exhibit celebrates the 150th anniversary of the publication of Whitman's major work, Leaves of Grass, arguably the most important and well-known book of verse in American literary history. This exhibit showcases the fine Whitman collection at the University of South Carolina's Thomas Cooper Library, drawing both from earlier holdings in Special Collections and, more extensively. from the Joel Myerson Collection of Nineteenth Century American Literature. Other items are on loan from Prof. Myerson's personal collection and, in one notable instance from, the collection of USC Prof. G. Ross Roy. The central part of this catalogue lists for the …

This catalog accompanied the exhibit of writings by and about the Scottish poet James Macpherson (1736-1796) which welcomes to Thomas Cooper Library the eighth W. Ormiston Roy Memorial Visiting Research Fellow, Dr. Valentina Bold from the University of Aberdeen. It is not always fully appreciated that, in addition to its outstanding holdings of Robert Burns and Burnsiana, the Roy Collection also encompasses extensive holdings of many other Scottish poets, more particularly from the early 18th century onwards. Each summer the Ormiston Roy Fellowship, endowed by Dr. and Mrs. Roy in memory of Dr. Roy's grandfather, brings to the University a …

Hugh Macdiarmid: The Thorn On Scotland's Rose, University Libraries--University Of South Carolina

Rare Books & Special Collections Publications

The items listed in this catalogue were almost all taken from the G. Ross Roy Collection of the University of South Carolina's Special Libraries Division. As the reader may be aware, collecting the works of MacDiarmid is made particularly difficult because there is no bibliography, or even checklist, of his complete works. Dr. W. R. Aitken has produced a useful list of books by or edited by MacDiarmid, but much of his work is to be found only in the periodicals and books to which he contributed. While particular attention was paid to works entirely by MacDiarmid in the selection …
