The purpose of this paper is to investigate the use of electronic resources (e-resources) by the academic staff of University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka. The study aimed to determine their awareness and perceptions towards the e-resources, training, and the factors affecting the usage. Convenient sampling method was used to select a sample of 37 academics from a population of 431. The study adopted both quantitative and qualitative approaches, by using a questionnaire and a discussion. Meanwhile, research funders have established policies that require grant recipients to practice open scholarship by sharing their research deliverables online. Graduate students as junior scholars may feel overwhelmed due to their unfamiliarity with some digital tools and how to be in compliance with research funders’ requirements. The study utilized quantitative method of research to determine the level of knowledge and skills of academic librarians in Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines on the five domains of research and the challenges they encountered relative to research writing. It also employed non-parametric Friedman test to determine the significant difference of librarians’ knowledge and skills across the five domains of research. Results revealed that the academic librarians had proficient knowledge in conceptualizing research problems, reviewing related literature and studies, and summarizing and formulating conclusions and recommendations while their level of knowledge in identifying appropriate research and writing analysis and interpretation of data …

Panelists come from small programs with one or two people at the helm, as well as a program that includes people with diverse publishing backgrounds. Numerous factors contributed to the development of the journal Communications in Information Literacy (CIL), which began publication in 2007. Countering the monopolistic and exclusionary practices of commercial journal publishers was a leading concern. The co-founders were motivated by the possibilities of what was then an awakening open research environment to create a truly open access journal, filling a gap in the literature, and helping the library field to commence with reclaiming control of its scholarly record. In 2010, Singapore Management University (SMU) was just 10 years old with aspirations to keep growing and attain a global reputation. But how could the University highlight the hard work taking place in its schools and institutes? A core group of stakeholders decided that a digital repository was crucial to making the institution’s intellectual output openly discoverable in order to achieve a more globally visible profile. This case study shares SMU’s journey, as well as tips that can help other young institutions launch a digital repository and open their research and scholarship to discovery by the world.

We argue that the increasing role of scholarly impact in determining a school’s status will provide a new opportunity for libraries to assume a critical institutional role behind its traditional support of scholarship and teaching. In practice, this increased role can evolve in a multitude of ways. To provide more affordable course content to our students and faculty, local data on how students perceive textbook expenses and how the costs impact student success would be necessary in order to advocate to faculty and other stakeholders. This survey, conducted at a mid-sized research public institution, aims to explore student perceptions of textbooks and how these perceptions influence academic success. The results reveal that students feel that the cost of required textbooks is unreasonable and that students are more likely to purchase required textbooks for in-major classes than for elective or general education courses.
