Making Outreach The Library’S Mission, April Miller

University and community outreach is an important part of library services, which fosters cohesiveness while involving adequate community support. This paper examines how outreach has become an important part of the library’s mission. Many outreach examples include the partnering of libraries with university departments, offices, and organizations. Other examples include university libraries partnering with community groups, museums, and non-profits. Currently outreach projects are carried out across all libraries, however, a greater emphasis is placed on the recent outreach accomplished at Southwestern Oklahoma State University Libraries.

In todays’ world, library and information services delivery are being transformed from their manual operations to new ways using technology. The study identified the paradigm shift in libraries and information services as a direct consequence of innovation technologies. The key concepts in the study are discussed. This community resource was created as a component of my capstone project for the 2017-2018 pilot of the SPARC Open Education Leadership Program. My goal was to determine whether my institution was ready for a faculty OER grant program pilot and design one that would be both effective and sustainable. In March 2015, Wilfrid Laurier University administration announced that WLU Press would be integrating with the Laurier Library. Media coverage of this announcement has been mixed, and is an indication of the ambivalent response to library-press collaborations or integrations, in both the university press and library communities. This article considers the WLU case at its current early stage of development, discussing this transformation not necessarily as “progress” but as one response to a rapidly shifting scholarly environment.
