Data Management And Curation For Qualitative Data, Sebastian Karcher

Open Access Day

Researchers and librarians are increasingly required to engage in careful management and curation of research data. These are still relatively new activities in most scientific disciplines, but they are particularly uncharted territory for research involving qualitative data. Based on his experience as the associate director of the Qualitative Data Repository (https://qdr.syr.edu), Sebastian will talk about the importance of managing and sharing qualitative data and about some best practices in doing so.

Ted-Style Talk: Creating Efficiencies Using Scholars Archive, Casey Kohler

Open Access Day

Within the University at Albany, the Center for Undergraduate Research and Creative Engagement (CURCE) hosts the Annual Undergraduate Research Conference, a program designed to showcase and promote student success and research excellence. Previously, CURCE has relied upon outdated and inefficient methods for soliciting student submissions for this conference. This process will be greatly enhanced by a partnership with the University Libraries, through the use of the Scholars Archive. The Shift Toward Open Research: A Discussion About Drivers, Recent Developments, And The Future Of Scholarship, Nick Shockey

Open Access Day

The shift toward a system of research and scholarship that is open by default is currently in progress. Since 2013, US federal research agencies have required that articles reporting publicly funded research be publicly accessible within 12 months. The momentum behind open research is building; however, what the end result looks like is still very much an open question. This talk will explore the drivers of this shift toward open research, …

Panel Discussion: Provost's Open Educational Resource (Oer) Fellows, Billie Franchini, Lenore Horowitz, Marcus Adams, Jeremy Feldblyum, Matthew Ingram

Open Access Day

While the adoption of open educational resources (OERs) in the undergraduate curriculum has the evident benefit of reducing cost to the student, thinking deeply about OER adoption reveals numerous questions: can OERs match the quality of traditional textbooks and other commercial educational resources? Are there problems associated with the current textbook landscape that OERs can solve? And how easily can OERs be integrated into classrooms with established modes of instruction? Each of the Provost’s OER Fellows will discuss briefly some of the most important conclusions from the current OER research literature and discuss these in the context of SUNY Albany …
