According to a National Academy of Sciences working group investigating the mental health crises in higher education, student wellbeing is an issue that needs to be addressed at the campus level, not siloed in specified departments and units. University libraries can be an integral part of student wellness initiatives, and this poster presentation will present one academic library’s engagement in student wellness initiatives. This poster will:

• Highlight the ways campus partnerships facilitated streamlined library engagement in student wellness

• Identify student centric initiatives and acquisitions

• Identify funding sources used for those initiatives and acquisitions

• Discuss outcomes of library wellness initiatives.

It will review credible health websites and discuss evaluation criteria for medical information. The session will also discuss professional boundaries that library staff need to maintain when providing health information.

Disruption Of Library Services Due To Hospital Cyberattack: A Case Study, Alice Stokes

Cyberattacks on healthcare organizations increased dramatically in 2020 and 2021. The University of Vermont Medical Center suffered an attack in October 2020, during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The disruption to hospital computer systems had wide ranging impacts, including loss of online access to the medical library for nearly three months. Library staff worked to reduce impacts and increase access for hospital employees until full access was restored. This case study offers lessons learned and resources for health sciences libraries planning for a potential cyberattack.

Background: The multi-station, summative OSCE includes a case designed to assess third-year medical students’ ability to access information at the point of care using Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) resources. Over the years, students have perceived this case to be difficult and confusing, which resulted in low performance. To address these concerns, a librarian-led EBM case learning session was developed and integrated into the formative, practice OSCE starting in 2018. The goals of the session were to increase understanding of how to search the vetted resource effectively and efficiently, incorporate evidence into practice, and emphasize the importance of EBM in clinical care. …

Background: Although many libraries have offered 3D printing as a service or available technology, there is a lack of information on course-integrated programs for 3D printing in which the library played a primary role. Therefore, librarians at the Touro College School of Health Sciences began exploring 3D printing for inclusion in the occupational and physical therapy curriculum. The launch of the revised medical school curriculum in Fall 2014 provided new opportunities for librarians to collaborate with clinical faculty. As a result of our past informatics instruction embedded in the first year curriculum, we were invited to expand this content as part of a new formative Objective Structured Clinical Examination (FOSCE) initiative. Two reference librarians worked closely with faculty to develop original case-based scenarios that were taught by a team of six reference librarians over the course of a year.

Objectives:

To illustrate our team-based approach to further integrate health sciences liaison services into a new medical education curriculum. Two full-time librarians are assigned to several departments as liaisons; duties for the school of medicine are shared between the two liaisons. Here, we describe several techniques employed to increase the library’s presence for information literacy in the new curriculum.

Methods:

Library Anxiety Of Law Students: A Study Utilizing The Multidimensional Library Anxiety Scale, Stacey L. Bowers

The purpose of this study was to determine whether law students experienced library anxiety and, if so, which components contributed to that anxiety. The Multidimensional Library Anxiety Scale (mlas) developed by Dr. Doris Van Kampen was used to assess library anxiety levels of law students. The mlas is a 53 question Likert scale instrument that measures the construct of library anxiety. Participants in the study were law students enrolled in a private midwestern university during the 2009-2010 academic year who completed the survey instrument.
