Library Press and Events
The TMC Library is proud to announce the completion of an extensive renovation project of our 1954/1975 building. Starting in early 2019 and concluding December 2020, this project modernized Library space for both independent and collaborative study for the entire Texas Medical Center Community. New lighting, furniture, updated restrooms, and extensive power availability were all part of the modernization project.

Data Collection Curated With An Application Ontology Describes The Methods And Results Upon Performing An Ex-Vivo Voltage-Clamp Assay On Outer Hair Cells Of The Mammalian Cochlea, Brenda Farrell, Jason Bengtson
Research Data
This data collection describes the electrical properties of outer hair cells isolated from the mammalian cochlea of the domestic guinea pig. This data was obtained by performing whole-cell patch clamp voltage clamp assay on cells and monitoring the electrical admittance during a DC voltage ramp. The membrane capacitance was then calculated at each membrane potential from this admittance, and the voltage-independent and voltage-dependent membrane capacitance was determined upon further analysis. In some case the DC conductance was also measured by interrogation of the cell with voltage-step function which was calculated from the change in the mean steady-state current with respect …

A presentation given at the annual meeting of the South Central Chapter of Medical Library Association (SCC/MLA).
Project Description
OBJECTIVE: To determine if new, strategic partnerships can be initiated between The Texas Medical Center Library (The TMC Library), Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) and University of Texas Health Science Center-Houston (UTHSC-H).
METHODS: Cohort study
The TMC Library joined a 22-member cohort of academic and research libraries to participate in the DuraSpace/ARL/DLF 2012 E-Science Institute, to discover new methods of supporting computational scientific research. From September to December 2012, library teams completed coursework that included interviews with key stakeholders at …

Lecture Series on E-Science
Geneva Henry, Executive Director of the Center for Digital Scholarship, Rice University. Data rights and ownership of digital research data can impact how you use data, how others use data you've collected, and how rights are determined in collaborative research. Copyright rules governing data vary from one country to the next, making data ownership in international collaborations particularly murky. Licensing the use of data sets from the start is one way to address these issues early and provide a means for easily sharing datasets that can be cited and properly attributed. This talk with introduce issues associated with digital research …

Compliance: E-Science Mandates And Policies, Sarah White
Lecture Series on E-Science
Data collected under federally funded research is subject to compliance rules and regulations. Policies affecting what you can and cannot do with your data, who is responsible, and what role your institution plays can vary with funding agencies and the type of data collected. This talk will address many of the compliance issues associated with research data, as well as funder mandates that you need to be aware of to ensure compliance.

Overview Of Data Management Planning Tools, Michele Reilly
Lecture Series on E-Science
These Data Management Plans are more comprehensive and complex than in the past. Libraries around the nation are trying to put together tools to help researchers write plans that conform to the new requirements. This session will look at some of these tools.

Evaluation And Model Of A Clinical Librarian Program, Elizabeth King Eaton
Evaluation And Model Of A Clinical Librarian Program, Elizabeth King Eaton
Library Staff Publications
Clinical medical librarianship is entering its second decade, but little evaluative data has accrued in the literature. Variations from the original programs and novel new approaches have insured the survival of the program so far. The clinical librarian (CL) forms a vital link between the library and the health care professional, operating as an important information transfer agent. However, to further insure the survival of these vital programs, hard evaluative evidence is needed. The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) at Galveston began a CL Program in 1978/79. An extensive three-year pre/post evaluation study was conducted using a specifically developed …
