This poster reports on qualitative analysis of 97 first-year student essays generated from an information literacy exercise designed collaboratively by four academic support units at DePaul University in Fall 2013. Working as an ACRL Assessment in Action team, the Library, Writing Center, Office for Academic Advising, and Center for Students with Disabilities integrated a library experience into an academic skills unit led by peer mentors. Over the past few years, an increasing number of academic libraries have been adding or supplementing research data management support and services to their offerings. In an effort to support different stakeholders (e.g. students, library faculty and librarians, and disciplinary faculty), Purdue Libraries faculty and staff have developed several different tools and resources specifically designed for librarians and liaisons in supporting research data management. Despite ongoing interest in deploying Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for sustainable development, their use in climate change adaptation remains under-studied. Based on the integration of adaptation theory and the existing literature on the use of ICTs in development, we present an analytical model for conceptualizing the contribution of existing ICTs to adaptation, and a framework for evaluating ICT success. We apply the framework to four case studies of ICTs in use for early warning systems and managing extreme events in LAC countries. We propose that existing ICTs can support adaptation through enabling access to critical information for decision-making, coordinating …

Librarians spend a great deal of time working with students. This could occur on the reference desk, during an in-person consultation, or in the classroom. However, with the shift towards e-learning and a growing number of students completing research and assignments off-campus, librarians are constantly looking for new ways to reach a wider diversity of users. Librarians at Western Libraries have used various methods for reaching out to students to enhance learning. One of the newer methods involves creating online video tutorials. Librarians have been refining their information literacy assessment methods since the 1990′s closely tying these assessment measures to clearly articulated learning outcomes as defined in the ACRL Information Literacy Competency Standards. An assessment plan was developed and implemented in conjunction with four information literacy sessions offered to students enrolled in a required course in the Women’s Studies Undergraduate Program at the University of Western Ontario. Hear how one librarian implemented an assessment plan and what she learned in the process. Results of this research will inform how best to assess library instruction in support of undergraduate student learning.

This presentation will give an overview of the structure for embedding information literacy into Loyola Marymount University’s new core curriculum. The curriculum map for information literacy throughout the first-year core courses will be displayed, with an emphasis on how the performance indicators are iterative and help build a foundation for more advanced skills. Also, the first-year information literacy assessment plan, which ranges from mandatory online tutorials to a series of graded research assignments, will be presented. Students engage in a more disciplinary perspective of information literacy through a required “information literacy flagged” course taken during the sophomore or junior year. …

This presentation will discuss the results of a rubric based assessment created for a library instruction program that is designed to meet the needs of all incoming students at Clemson University. After attending the ACRL Immersion program Assessment Track, the instruction Coordinator for this institution returned with fresh ideas about assessment and she will share with participants the basic layout of the instruction provided and the thought process behind the creation of the assessment. Finally, results and a critical analysis of the process will be shared.
