Web site usability concerns anyone with a web site to maintain. Libraries, however, are often the biggest offenders in terms of usability. In our efforts to provide users with everything they need to do research, we often overwhelm them with sites that are confusing in structure, difficult to navigate, and weighed down with jargon. Dowling College Library recently completed a redesign of its web site based upon the concept of usability. For smaller libraries in particular, this can be a challenge. Using Virtual Worlds To Launch Ideas, Research And Teaching, Anne-Marie Armstrong, Darryl Shreve, Joshua Neds-Fox

Wayne State University’s Office for Teaching and Learning (OTL) co-hosted an all-day symposium called Virtual Citizenship. This symposium was part of an ongoing, multi-faceted study of the intersection between information technologies and the practice of citizenship. The OTL, with the help of the New Media Consortium, was able to provide the resources and technical knowledge needed to produce this forum while showcasing new technologies. Prominent speakers presented their views and research live in the university’s auditorium and simultaneously via video streams into Second Life and the university’s web site. Us Academic Libraries: Today’S Learning Commons Model, Susan Mcmullen

In 2007, the author examined existing academic libraries in the United States to determine best practices for the design, implementation and service of learning commons facilities. A primary objective of this study was to discover how to create a higher education learning environment that sustains scholarship encourages collaboration and empowers student learning. This article explains how to plan for a modern learning commons and presents the various components that comprise the space.

Proposal For Library Staff Exchange With Southwest Jiao Tong University, Courtright Memorial Library

Otterbein China Librarians Exchange Program Documentations and Publications

In this memorandum to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the library director Lois Szudy and System Librarian Jane Wu propose a trial library staff exchange between Otterbein College and Southwest Jiao Tong University in Chengdu, China. Building upon a prior successful exchange with Shanghai Jiao Tong University, this initiative seeks to deepen our global academic collaborations.

The benefits of such exchanges are manifold, encompassing cooperative teaching and research, student and faculty exchanges, summer internships, and enrichment of global learning programs. These collaborations significantly contribute to Otterbein's international reputation and capacity to attract international students.
