Incorporating Avoiding Plagiarism Into A Drug Information Course, Roslyn Kohlbrecher, Diana Sobieraj
UConn Library Presentations
Background: Maintaining academic integrity is a priority for professional pharmacy programs, but fitting this topic into the curriculum can be a challenge. In the absence of a medical writing course, our institution uses a drug information course to introduce students to the topic of avoiding plagiarism. The professor of this course approached their librarian for ideas on improving the way this topic had historically been presented. The librarian used an existing resource to build a LibWizard tutorial on avoiding plagiarism that is tailored to the PharmD curriculum.
Description: The tutorial includes 24 slides that present information and are accompanied by …

Background
The SKMC Office of the Dean through its Graduate Medical Education (GME) Section identified a need for more comprehensive support for GME research efforts. This was intensified as the residency program requirements began to formalize the expectations and quantification of scholarly output for both trainees and core GME faculty.1 In consultation with the Director of the Academic Commons, this GME-focused position was conceptualized to better meet the needs of our residents and faculty, and thus enhance the scholarly projects of our GME constituency. This would build on existing scholarly support2 including professional writing services.3 As part of the Information …

Systematic Review Search Strategies: Non-Arthritic Hip Diseases And Psychosocial Factors, Jenn Monnin
Faculty & Staff Scholarship
The following search strategies were built for a systematic review addressing non-arthritic hip diseases and psychosocial factors. An a priori protocol for this review was developed and registered with PROSPERO (CRD42021248562). The search was originally designed in PubMed, then translated to the other databases searched (Scopus, Web of Science, CINAHL, and SPORTDiscus). Search peer review was performed by Anna Crawford using a modified version of the Peer Review of Electronic Search Strategies guideline. The original search was run on July 12, 2021, with a search update performed on June 21, 2023.

Librarian Publications
Instructional medical librarians are uniquely positioned in a context governed by multiple instructional frameworks emerging from librarianship and the professions with which they liaise. Yet very little literature exists on medical librarians’ use of curriculum mapping to align their instruction with these frameworks. This review illuminates the current state of curriculum mapping in medical librarianship. We searched five bibliographic databases for articles published between 2010 and August 2021 and centred on information literacy(IL)curriculum mapping within a health sciences university context. Studies were included based upon pre-determined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were extracted using an instrument developed primarily a priori, with …

Resiliency Strategies For Brightly Burning Librarians, Christine Andresen, Irene Lubker
MUSC Conference Presentations
Purpose: Librarianship is a helping profession which means caring is one of our superpowers, yet also makes us more likely to cross our own boundaries in our efforts to support our users, leaving us vulnerable to burnout. Our best intentions, fears of missing out, and need to prove our value often drive us to the limits of our abilities to sustain the levels of service we provide. This presentation will prepare librarians with strategies to promote overall well-being and foster resiliency.
Description: Health sciences librarians often happily agree to new, exciting opportunities, only to find that our best intentions end …

The Ische Library started to offer the service in Fall of 2019. It did not take long for word of the service to get out, and during the first few months, the library handled a respectable volume of requests. In 2020, COVID-19 struck and almost all poster printing halted. Throughout the remainder of 2020, and the whole of 2021, the cancellation of conferences, and students attending remotely ensured that we did not have any external posters to print. Library staff printed a poster or two each month, to created internal signage, and just to keep the printer in working order. …

Previous investigations into trends in Library and Information Science (LIS) literature have revealed changes in the topics librarians publish on over time, with older studies highlighting classification and indexing, and information retrieval and more recent studies highlighting keywords such as internet, information technology, digital libraries, and again, information retrieval. No similar investigation has been conducted on current publication trends by health sciences librarians. This study analyzes the top themes on which health sciences librarians published from 2016 to 2020 by examining the frequency of keywords. Keywords and subject headings were analyzed from The Journal of the Medical Library Association, Medical …

Peer Review Validation: Tracking Scholarly Activity In A Repository, Amanda Schwartz
Articles, Abstracts, and Reports
Providence’s institutional repository Digital Commons launched in 2018, serving as the enterprise’s scholarly activity repository. After several years of successful repository usage and readership tracking, research administration initiated a new request: peer review tracking. The repository previously tracked number of article submissions but did not assess if content was published in peer reviewed journals. How can we retroactively and proactively track peer reviewed articles on our institutional repository? Simple ask, complicated answer.
Library staff had no previous practices in place to record whether content was peer reviewed or not. The initial request seemed simple, yetbecame increasingly complex to create both …
