Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the influence of cataloguers’ motivation on their job performances in public university libraries in South East Nigeria.

Design/methodology/approach – The study adopted both descriptive and correlational research design. This study was carried out in the South-East zone of Nigeria. It comprises Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States. This area was chosen for the study in view of the fact that the region is well acclaimed as having educational advantage in Nigeria.
