Leadership that draws upon Ignatian wisdom has the potential to heal the divides which plague our local, national and global communities. This chapter weaves together elements of Ignatian Spirituality, critical leadership studies, feminist theory, and critical race concepts to propose a conception of Ignatian leadership that is liberatory for both leader and those being led. This article: (a) describes the (Ignatian) Leadership Minor structure and curriculum for undergraduates at Creighton and (b) suggests how to embed principles of Ignatian leadership into undergraduate classrooms whether or not “leadership” is the explicit focus. First, I explain how the Leadership Minor was created specifically to embrace Ignatian Leadership and describe the required courses in terms of their learning objectives and related assignments. This chapter shares assessment results from a 4-year undergraduate Ignatian Leadership program. The Dean’s Fellows program consists of several curricular and co-curricular elements, including cohort-based seminars, a common summer read, an annual retreat, social and cultural activities, and a concluding leadership immersion experience. Learning formats throughout the four years included lectures, small and large group discussions, and workshops. For the immersion experience, the Dean’s Fellows participated in preparatory lectures that included information on cultural intelligence, anticipatory reflection, Ignatian Leadership, and discernment, as well as topical information. This article describes the underlying theory and practice of a Distinctly Jesuit Approach to Athletics, which was represented at the 2016 Vatican Conference, Sport at the Service of Humanity. The approach has been developed and implemented in a collaboration between the Institute for Excellence & Ethics (IEE) and the athletics departments at Le Moyne College and The University of Scranton.
