Leadership Journeys Of Twelve Women In The Wine Industry: A Qualitative Study, Colleen Baker

Over the past five years, women's global leadership roles have increased to 42.7%, constituting 39.5% of the overall labor force. In the U.S., despite comprising 47% of the labor force, women hold 42% of leadership positions. Despite educational achievements, women remain underrepresented in leadership, notably in agriculture and the wine industry. This study addressed this gap by exploring gender dynamics in underrepresented wine regions—Oregon, South Africa, and Virginia. Employing a phenomenological approach, 12 participants were selected. Themes such as mentorship, community support, collaboration, gender barriers, pathways to position, and continuous participation emerged through coding, guided by the Social Learning Theory …

Recent studies have shown that Latinos have both the highest labor force participation rate of any ethnic group in the state of Michigan, contributing significantly to the state’s economic, cultural, and political strengths. Despite this, Latinos also face significant barriers with respect to education, entrepreneurship, and access to higher paying, “white collar” jobs.[1] There are also significant areas of Latino history and community-development work in Michigan that remain unexplored and undocumented, which detracts from the community’s strengths and resilience. Among college students, research has revealed that 76% of them reported that they search for meaning in life (Dunn & Hammer, 2015). Spirituality is one specific way in which students begin their search for meaning. A qualitative approach was used to examine the perspectives of how six Christian college student leaders from three different campus ministries found their purpose. Using qualitative research methodology, factors and barriers influence leadership role attainment for collegiate women were explored and examined. The study used semi-structured interviews with four participants to look at factors influencing leadership attainment and why women decide to lead. The researcher identified factor before and after college that impacted a women’s decisions to lead, and her ability to attain a role. Substantial research has been done on self-efficacy as well as a growing amount of research on women in leadership. This qualitative study examined the perceived relationship between leadership development opportunities given to Panhellenic women and their perceived level of self-efficacy. Three semi-structured interviews were conducted at a regional, mid-sized institution in the Midwest with undergraduate women holding leadership positions in their respective Panhellenic organizations. Using qualitative methodology. the researcher examined motivations, social support networks, and challenges college women face in student leadership positions. Four semi-structured interviews were conducted at a midsized university in the Midwest with college women in various positions of organizational leadership. The researcher identified motivational factors for women to apply for leadership positions as well as described the social support network that exists for college women in positions of leadership. Challenges college women face in achieving higher leadership positions were also identified. Lastly, recommendations were made for student affairs professionals and women in leadership based on the research findings.

The purpose of this research was to determine whether the process of achieving occupational expertise could be accelerated enabling operators in high risk vocations to make effective decisions earlier in their careers. Scholars have hypothesized good decision making skills are largely a result of relevant experience within the specific domain. The rationale being that the greater the experience an individual has the more likely the operator has experienced similar situations and can apply solutions that have been successful in the past. Self-esteem and leadership behaviors vary from individual to individual. Previous research indicates that multiple external factors influence self-esteem. Results of this study indicate that levels of self-esteem have the potential to influence leadership behaviors. This study utilized qualitative research practices to explore levels of self-esteem and leadership behaviors among female college student leaders. Six female undergraduate students at a public, four-year, midsized institution located in the Midwest were interviewed for this study. This study was constructed to examine characteristics associated with student leadership. Participants were 261 students who were involved in a Registered Student Organization in the fall of 2013. The researcher completed a quantitative approach to gain students' perceptions of their student leadership characteristics. Results suggested that students' overall perception of their leadership characteristics was positive, with males and females perceiving their leadership characteristics similarly as well did those who replied to be general members and officers in registered student organizations. Future recommendations for student leadership development are included.

The purpose of this study was to compare leader and non-leader attitudes regarding leadership training. This study states that there is significant differences among industry leaders, student leaders, and non-leaders with regard to the attitudes reflecting leadership and leadership training. A survey comprised of Likert scales, Likert-type scales, and open-ended questions was used to collect data. This data showed there was a significant difference in the expressed opinions of each group. This thesis studied leadership with the variables of birth order, parental marital status, age, and gender in mind. Four hypotheses were developed around each of those variables. Other areas that were developed included a review of the literature concerning birth order and birth order characteristic tendencies; parental marital status and its effect of children; and general leadership principles. The results obtained from the experiment proved nonsignificant in all four hypotheses. A survey was also given to the subjects to assess their attitudes on leadership characteristics.

The Contingency Theory of Leadership Effectiveness is one of the most comprehensive theories of leadership today. The theory postulates that leadership effectiveness is contingent upon the combination of leadership style and situational favorableness. Leader style is measured by the Esteem for Least-Preferred Coworker (LPC) scale. A high LPC score is interpreted as reflecting a relation-oriented leader, while a low LPC score reflects a task-oriented leader. Situational favorableness is determined by three variables: leader-member relations, task structure, and position power.
