An archaeological survey of the proposed 362 acre (146 hectares) Brazos Valley Solid Waste Management Agency, Inc. (BVSWMA, Inc.) East Expansion Project, in Grimes County, Texas was performed by Ed Baxter Consulting in April, May, June and July of 2017. Edward P. Baxter was the Principal Investigator and the Project Archaeologist. The survey took a total of ten man days in the field. This study was completed under Texas Antiquities Committee Permit Number 7987. The project area was investigated using the pedestrian survey method supported by shovel testing. On behalf of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), SWCA Environmental Consultants (SWCA) conducted an intensive cultural resources survey with shovel testing and backhoe trenching from November 29–30, 2017, of approximately 27.55 acres (11.15 hectares) of existing and 10.45 acres (4.23 hectares) of proposed new TxDOT right-of-way (ROW) along State Highway (SH) 6 and Farm-to-Market Road (FM) 2, located approximately 7.0 miles (11.3 kilometers [km]) southeast of Navasota and 11.0 miles (17.7 km) northwest of Hempstead, Grimes County, Texas. This report summarizes archeological investigations conducted by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department at Fanthorp Inn State Historical Park from 1983 to 1989. This work was necessary to accompany architectural restoration of the inn as it appeared during the period between 1850 and 1867. Since restoration was completed, Fanthorp Inn State Historical Park in Anderson, Grimes County, has been run as an interpretive site representing a transportation and communication center of the mid-nineteenth century. The archeological excavations were intended to evaluate the areas impacted by the architectural restoration and to determine the appearance of the grounds during the mid-nineteenth century. …

Archaeological site 41GM23 was tested by the cultural resources staff of the Texas State Department of Highways and Public Transportation (SDHPT) during the week of June 6,1988. The test revealed that, although the site has been disturbed by clearing and bulldozing, intact cultural deposits remained. The deposits were about 60 cm thick and contained a hearth and other evidence of prehistoric occupation. The cultural material recovered suggests that the site was occupied during the Early Ceramic and Late Archaic periods. The site is eligible for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places, and for listing as a State Archaeological …
