This report describes archeological efforts done under six work orders for the development of Yanaguana Garden at HemisFair Park in downtown San Antonio, Texas. All of the projects were done by Prewitt and Associates, Inc. (PAI), for Adams Environmental, Inc. (AEI), and the City of San Antonio, Transportation and Capital Improvements (CoSA-TCI), under Texas Antiquities Permit No. 6846 (issued April 14, 2014). As described below, the Yanaguana Garden project is the first phase of a planned redevelopment of HemisFair Park for mixed-use purposes. On June 2–3, 2014, Prewitt and Associates, Inc., conducted an archeological survey for proposed drainage improvements along a ca. 2,800-foot (ft) (853 meter [m]) segment of the Sixmile Creek channel downstream from Roosevelt Avenue in San Antonio, Texas. Desktop research and an earlier field reconnaissance found that the Area of Potential Effects (APE) has little to no potential of yielding significant archeological resources based on the geologic and geomorphic setting and twentieth-century channel and landscape modifications. In June 2012, an intensive archeological survey was completed in order to inventory and evaluate archeological resources on public land prior to the construction of drainage and roadway improvements along VFW Boulevard from Roosevelt Avenue, which is also a Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) roadway known as Spur 536, to Padre Drive in southeastern San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. From April 2013 to October 2014, construction-phase excavations were monitored. The work was carried out for Bexar County (the County) under Texas Antiquities Permit 6260. Cox|McLain Environmental Consulting, Inc. (CMEC) conducted the survey and monitoring under contract to HNTB Corporation.

(RKEI) to perform an intensive cultural resources survey along State Highway (SH) 16 for a proposed water and sewer line project in Helotes, Bexar County, Texas. The project occurred within the existing SH-16 Rightof Way (ROW). The purpose of this survey was to locate surface exposed or buried cultural deposits with the project area. In July and August of 2014, under Texas Antiquities Permit #6914, Hicks & Company completed an intensive archeological survey of the Alazan Creek and Martinez Creek Hike and Bike Trail Improvements Project in Bexar County, Texas. Since construction of the new trails and park improvements will take place on land to be owned by the City of San Antonio, it is subject to the Antiquities Code of Texas. Additionally, the project will require permit coordination with the United States Army Corps of Engineers, necessitating compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended.

Equitable Land Holdings, in compliance with the City of San Antonio’s Unified Development Code, proposes to develop a 303-acre parcel of land in western Bexar County, San Antonio, Texas. Because the project is on private land, neither the Antiquities Code of Texas or Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act applies.

The project area is defined by the boundaries of the 303-acre property located on the west bank of Potranco Creek, approximately 500 meters west of Grosenbacher Road. On February 27, 2015, Prewitt and Associates, Inc. conducted an archeological survey for proposed improvements along West Borgfeld Drive from Timberline Drive to Blanco Road in Bexar County, Texas. The project will reconstruct West Borgfeld Drive from two lanes to four lanes. These improvements will take place within the existing 86-ft-wide right of way of West Borgfeld Drive and comprise a horizontal Area of Potential Effects (APE) of ca. 20 acres. In November-December 2014, the Center for Archaeological Research (CAR) at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) conducted an archaeological survey of 4.3 acres of private property owned by the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW). The survey was required by the City of San Antonio (COSA) in compliance with the COSA Unified Development Code (UDC) Chapter 35.

A pedestrian survey with shovel testing and backhoe trenching was conducted in order to identify potential archaeological resources within the project area. A small prehistoric site (41BX2065) was located in the southern portion of the project area. Deposits at the site …

Atkins was contracted by the City of San Antonio (COSA) to perform cultural resource investigations of the proposed Indian Creek II (CIMS) Drainage Improvement Project in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. Covering an area of 40.36 acres (16.33 hectares), the project would improve localized flooding within the 100-year floodplain by creating overflow channels, and in some locations, by deepening and widening the existing channel bottom. Raba Kistner Environmental, Inc. was contracted by Pape-Dawson Engineers, Inc., on behalf of the San Antonio River Authority, to perform an intensive archaeological pedestrian survey of the Lower Segment of San Pedro Creek. The northern boundary of the project area is the South Alamo Street Bridge, and the southern boundary is the confluence with Apache-Alazán Creek. On May 29 and 30, 2014, archeologists from Hicks & Company conducted a 100-percent intensive areal survey of the Elmendorf Lake Park Improvements Project in Bexar County, Texas.
