A Detailed Case Study Of Unusual Routines, Stephen Cooper
A Detailed Case Study Of Unusual Routines, Stephen Cooper
Stephen D. Cooper
Everyone working in organizations will, from time to time, experience frustrations and problems when trying to accomplish tasks that are a required part of their role. In such cases it is normal for people to find ways of completing their work in such a way that hey can get around, or just simply avoid, the procedure or system that has caused the problem. This is an unusual routine – a recurrent interaction pattern in which someone encounters a problem when trying to accomplish normal activities by following standard organizational procedures and then becomes enmeshed in wasteful and even harmful subroutines …

Fishing For Animal Rights In "The Cove": A Holistic Approach To Animal Advocacy Documentaries, Carrie Freeman
Carrie P Freeman
The Oscar-winning 2009 documentary "The Cove" serves as a thrilling and poignant advocacy tool promoting activism to save free-roaming dolphins off the coast of Japan from kidnapping, enslavement in marine parks, and slaughter for meat. This essay evaluates the ethical and social justice implications of The Cove not just for dolphins but for the animal rights movement as a whole, particularly in terms of how it could challenge the ethicality of humans killing any nonhuman animals for food. Strategic media recommendations are made for how animal protection advocates could better deconstruct the human/animal dualism that is at the root of …

Dr. John R. Fisher
Non-traditional students in an online course in Homeland Security used the DEAL model of critical reflection to describe (a) what they learned, (b) how they learned it, (c)why it matters, and (d) what they will do with what they learned. Online discussion of readings proved to be the most effective learning technique used in the course because it incorporated reflective practices and allowed application of real-life experiences.

Changing Egypt’S Identity One Picture At A Time, Ethan Pullman
Ethan P Pullman
In the wake of Egypt's recent political revolution, an image circulated on social networks and the internet at large that spread like wild fire – “has gone viral,” as one Facebook user comments. What makes this image revolutionary, and somewhat ironic, is the interplay between image and language reconstructed meaning using the language of the dominant “orientalist” culture that originated it.
