One year ago, Cedarville University associate professor of communication Jeffrey Simon was presented with an opportunity to consult on a multi-million-dollar media ministry project that could make a difference worldwide and have an immediate impact with his college students.

Simon, who teaches broadcasting and digital media, connected with Dr. Christopher Yuan, a renowned author and speaker on topics including human sexuality and biblical authority. One can scarcely think about the holiday season between Thanksgiving and Christmas without football and family coming to mind. And when Lorin Barnes, a senior at Cedarville University, began interviewing sports fans for her qualitative research class, she was intrigued by the dedication they expressed for the hometown teams they cheered for in their childhoods. Her subsequent research earned the “Top Undergraduate Poster” award at the 2020 Ohio Communication Association (OCA) conference.

There are places in the world where people scavenge trash dumps to survive. These people have little hope of improving their lives. Mischelle McIntosh, assistant professor of communication at Cedarville University, is forming a summer mission team to document one such place in Ethiopia.
