The millennial generation emerges in the era of advanced technology. The characters of the generation tend to have advanced knowledge of both technology and information. This convenience, spreading information easily, causes difficulty identifying whether or not the news is factual. Critical Media Literacy Approaches To Violence Prevention: A Research Note, Emily A. Moorhouse, Hayley Brooks

Journal of Media Literacy Education

Sexual violence is a global phenomenon needing sustainable interventions. The article extends findings from media literacy scholars by exploring ways that critical media literacy (CML) pedagogies can be used to teach affirmative consent education for the purposes of violence prevention. The article is not a curriculum blue-print, as the pedagogies are still being piloted for adolescents in Ontario. However, the rationales for bridging consent education and critical media literacy apply transnationally. Basic Course Directors (BCDs) are typically expected to assess course learning outcomes, but few formal guidelines and resources exist for new BCDs. As one part of a larger multi-methodological assessment tool development project, this manuscript maps existing quantitative measures onto the six essential competencies and associated learning outcomes established by the Social Science Research Council Panel on Public Speaking. This manuscript compiles dozens of measurement resources, aligned by outcome, and also identifies areas where future assessment measures development is needed.
