We study efficient and stable mechanisms in matching markets when the number of agents is large and individuals’ preferences and priorities are drawn randomly. When agents’ preferences are uncorrelated, then both efficiency and stability can be achieved in an asymptotic sense via standard mechanisms such as deferred acceptance and top trading cycles. When agents’ preferences are correlated over objects, however, these mechanisms are either inefficient or unstable even in an asymptotic sense. We propose a variant of deferred acceptance that is asymptotically efficient, asymptotically stable and asymptotically incentive compatible. We leverage the assumption that preferences are stable across contexts to partially identify and conduct inference on the parameters of a structural model of risky choice. Working with data on households' deductible choices across three lines of insurance coverage and a model that nests expected utility theory plus a range of non-expected utility models, we perform a revealed preference analysis that yields household-specific bounds on the model parameters. We then impose stability and other structural assumptions to tighten the bounds, and we explore what we can learn about households' risk preferences from the intervals defined by the bounds. This paper investigated the thermal stability, tensile strength, and conductivity of deformation-processed Cu-14Fe in situ composites produced by thermo-mechanical processing. The thermal stability was analyzed using scanning electronic microscope and transmission electron microscope. The tensile strength and conductivity were evaluated using tensile-testing machine and micro-ohmmeter, respectively. The Fe fibers in the deformation-processed Cu-14Fe in situ composites undergo edge recession, longitudinal splitting, cylinderization, break-up, and spheroidization during the heat treatment. The Cu matrix experiences recovery, recrystallization, and precipitation phase transition. Semi-analytical solutions for the reversible Selkov model are developed and used to investigate its static and dynamic stability. A one-dimensional reaction-diffusion cell is considered with all steps of the Selkov reaction modeled. A coupled set of four partial differential equations is obtained for the precursor, reactant, autocatalyst and final product concentrations. The Galerkin method is applied to approximate the spatial structure of the concentrations to obtain a lower-order, ordinary differential equation model, as an approximation to the governing partial differential equations. Magnetic levitation ball system is a highly nonlinear and unstable system. If the system is linearised at the equilibrium point, the achievable balance range of the magnetically levitated ball is very short with one electromagnet. This paper presents an improved magnetic levitation ball system, that contains two electromagnets, where one electromagnet is set above the magnetic ball for pulling, and another one is set under the magnetic ball for pushing. This paper presents the results revealing the influence of the nonlinear gain on the stability limit of a semiconductor laser (SL) with external optical feedback (EOF). A new system determinant is derived from the original Lang and Kobayashi (L-K) equations. By making analysis on the locus of the roots of the system determinant, the stability limit of the system is obtained, from which a number of important and interesting phenomenon revealed by the nonlinear gain is uncovered. The correctness of results is verified by numerical simulations.

The removal of trace organic compounds (TrOCs) by a novel membrane distillation-thermophilic bioreactor (MDBR) system was examined. Salinity build-up and the thermophilic conditions to some extent adversely impacted the performance of the bioreactor, particularly the removal of total nitrogen and recalcitrant TrOCs. While most TrOCs were well removed by the thermophilic bioreactor, compounds containing electron withdrawing functional groups in their molecular structure were recalcitrant to biological treatment and their removal efficiency by the thermophilic bioreactor was low (0-53%). The rapid growth of wind generation in many European countries is pushing power systems into uncharted territory. As additional wind generators are installed, the changing generation mix may impact on power system stability. This paper adopts the New England 39 bus system as a test system for transient stability analysis. This paper analyzes the impact on transient and frequency stability for a power system at very high wind penetration (40% wind). Wind penetration is based on the doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG), and a systematic approach has been adopted for wind power integration. A sensitivity analysis has been carried out for each wind integration scenario and for different wind generator loading conditions. The doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) now represents the dominant technology in wind turbine design. One consequence of this is limited damping and inertial response during transient grid disturbances. A 'decoupled' strategy is therefore proposed to operate the DFIG grid-side converter (GSC) as a static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) during a fault, supporting the local voltage, while the DFIG operates as a fixed-speed induction generator (FSIG) providing an inertial response. The current study sought to examine change and stability of personality in a sample of women over the course of 35 years. Existing research is mixed regarding whether or not personality changes over time or whether it remains stable. Using a sample of 187 women tracked over four time points (approximately 10 years between each time point), change and stability in openness to experience, extraversion, and neuroticism was tested using a stacked multilevel growth curve analysis. In most radicals the singly occupied molecular orbital (SOMO) is the highest-energy occupied molecular orbital (HOMO); however, in a small number of reported compounds this is not the case. In the present work we expand significantly the scope of this phenomenon, known as SOMO–HOMO energy-level conversion, by showing that it occurs in virtually any distonic radical anion that contains a sufficiently stabilized radical (aminoxyl, peroxyl, aminyl) non-π-conjugated with a negative charge (carboxylate, phosphate, sulfate). Moreover, regular orbital order is restored on protonation of the anionic fragment, and hence the orbital configuration can be switched by pH. Most importantly, our theoretical …

Postural stability during voluntary head movements is maintained through the integration of vestibular and neck afferent inputs. These inputs combine to accurately estimate trunk position in space, relative to a turning head. In animals, a loss of vestibular information leads to an active destabilization of balance as neck afferent information is interpreted as a movement of the trunk under a stable head (Stapley et al. 2006).

The thermal stability of the infrared stimulated luminescence (IRSL) signal from a sedimentary K-feldspar was investigated using isothermal decay study. It is observed that the isothermal decay of IRSL signal cannot be described using a first-order exponential decay function. Instead, the decay can be well described by considering the presence of band-tail states. Based on the isothermal decay results, a trap depth of ∼1.92 eV was obtained for the IRSL stimulated at 50 °C and the width of the band-tail states was found to be ∼0.37 eV below the conduction band edge. Analyzing the current state of the United States' alliances with both Japan and South Korea underscores the failure of the traditional alliance theory concepts, realism, liberalism, and constructivism, to adequately describe their continuation. Introducing a concept termed the stability theory to alliance theory explains the current trajectories of the US-Japan and US-South Korea alliances. Drift of pesticides can be a significant health hazard, particularly in areas where agricultural land is adjacent to a school, retirement home, or other populated area. Off-target drift of pesticides depends on many atmospheric variables, both mechanical and thermal. While non-atmospheric variables, such as applicator nozzle size, height of application, and particle size, can be controlled by the applicator to reduce drift potential, understanding how atmospheric conditions set a framework for drift potential enables applicators to choose to spray when the weather conditions would minimize drift. A large literature uses matching models to analyze markets with two-sided heterogeneity, studying problems such as the matching of students to schools, residents to hospitals, husbands to wives, and workers to firms. The analysis typically assumes that the agents have complete information, and examines core outcomes. We formulate a notion of stable outcomes in matching problems with one-sided asymmetric information. Western Sahara has been in a state of political crisis since Spain granted the territory to Morocco and Mauritania in 1975. While Morocco has attempted to incorporate the region within its borders, the Polisario Front (Frente Popular de Liberación de Saguía el Hamra y Río de Oro) has challenged Morocco's claims and proclaimed they are the voice of the indigenous Sahrawi people. Algeria, home to a majority of the Sahrawi refugees, continues to support the Polisario and their goal of independence from Morocco.
